As we near the end of the school year, we will be recapping the spelling rules we have learnt so far this year from the Read Write Inc program. We will be continuing to practise as many of the year 3 and 4 spellings (listed below) as well as revisiting spelling rules.
For example- the suffix -ous will be our first recap. Some words include mountainous, poisonous, hazardous. A couple of the words from the year 3 and 4 list also fit in to this, such as famous and various and we can also take root words like continue which becomes continuous.
I will try my best to link any of these words when sending them home to learn, but the spellings will be a mixture of words we are currently recapping and words form the year 3 and 4 list.
I have also attached a Spelling Bingo which I have devised to help the children learn their spellings using a range of strategies to keep them engaged and motivated. These have been implemented in class and the children seem to really enjoy finding as many ways as they can to practise their words. I have also been using wordsearches and crosswords to switch up the way I 'test' them.
Please do let me know how they are getting on and if there are any other ways you might think of so we can help them to retain the words they have been learning.
