Phonics

Practise the words on the first two slides of the PowerPoint. I would usually have these on a flash card that the children would recognise as Story Green words and Red words and the second slide is the Speedy Green words.

Get your child to read the story on the last three slides. Instructions are on top of the page to help.

Complete a sentence. This needs to be completely independent. The missing words are all words that they have read in the story.

Literacy

This week our story is The Beeman by Laurie Krebs. Before you read the book, begin with a brief discussion. Try to include the following:

• Does anyone like honey?

• Where does honey come from?

• What can you tell me about bees? (Try to include that they are insects, they can sting people, they live outside, etc.)

• Can bees help people?

• What do honeybees give people?

Now think about what an important job the boy’s Grandpa is going. However, as good as bees are to the environment you need to be dressed correctly! Why? You need to think of all the things that Grandpa did before he went out to the bee hives and write a list. Then say why he would need to do this.

Maths

I have put an instruction sheet on with what to do for your maths activity today. You need: small objects, e.g. LEGO™ bricks, buttons, conkers, shells, beads… three small pots or bowls and a 1-6 dice (you can make number cards 1-6 if you don’t have a dice).

I have put a number of bee craft activities below which you can do throughout the week. if you wish, however you could come up with some of your own ideas.
