Sports Premium

The government allocate a specific grant of £16,000 plus a premium of £10 for every pupil aged over 5 years to all primary schools.

At St Leonard's Lower School the governors and teachers are committed to using the funding to promote high quality PE for all children in the school and enhance their opportunities to take part in competitive and non-competitive sport;  to promote positive values for life and to ensure the pupils understand the benefits of sport for better health and fun leisure time activities.

This reflects the DfE vision for Primary PE and Sports Premium that, “all pupils leaving primary school will be physically literate and have the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.”

To demonstrate how we achieve this aim we use the following indicators…

  1. The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity - the Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that all children and young people aged 5 to 18 engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day, of which 30 minutes should be in school
  2. Raising the profile of PE and sport across the school
  3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of staff teaching PE
  4. Broadening the range of sports and activities offered to all pupil
  5. Increased participation in competitive sports
